"Living in Cinema" interview with Peitor Angell

Hit songwriter, record producer, film scorer, arranger and conductor, PEITOR ANGELL enjoys the many hats he has mastered over his years in the music business.  With 7 billboard top 20 charting records to his career to date as well as countless songs and music featured in films, television and theatre there is little time for him to reflect on anything but what’s right in front of him and what’s next.

“I was extremely fortunate to be exposed to a great wealth of culture, art, music and literature early on in life growing up and studying both in America and Europe. “

Incredibly prolific, his knack for writing catchy songs, themes and arrangements has garnered many appearances of his work in Film, Television, CDs and Live Theatre.  From his 60’s Styled Pacific Coast Jazz styled MONTE CARLO & HIS ORCHESTRA work to his Neo Classic Soul work with Grammy Award winning artist, THELMA HOUSTON, his music has been heard worldwide.

Currently the music documentary titled, THIS TIME, releasing theatrically in August 2012 focuses mainly on his work composing and producing Billboard top 10 hits for PAT HODGES, legendary background singers, THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS and his journey bringing them both back into the spotlight with his composing and producing.

Following his work with the above artists in 2005, he went to work Producing the first new CD by Grammy Award Winning vocalist, THELMA HOUSTON, titled A WOMAN’S TOUCH.  Completing 10 songs for that, he then accompanied her on live dates conducting and rehearsing her band in Canada, America and Italy.

In 2007 he began work on a new project, a soundtrack for an imaginary 60’s Swinging London Film titled, KISS YESTERDAY GOODBYE.  He wrote the score and began recording with all live musicians.  The culmination of this project will be released late summer.  Sixteen tracks in all with two songs featuring vocals by Kristi Rose and the music performed by MONTE CARLO & HIS ORCHESTRA.  This is a follow up CD to the INTERNATIONAL SET which is another MONTE CARLO & HIS ORCHESTRA CD with a 50s 60’s international pop/jazz vibe featuring vocalist, Kristi Rose with all original songs in French, Italian, English and German due out early Fall 2012.

In the midst of these projects, he was busy producing and remixing for CHARO in 2008 and 2010 helping her with her last two Billboard Club Chart smashes, ESPANA CANI and SEXY SEXY.

Yet even in the mist of all of this, he has managed to supply music for numerous successful Theatrical productions, mostly under the direction of RICK SPARKS.  Aside from the shows, DEAD BRIDE RUNNING, A CLOCKWORK ORANGE and STAGE STRUCK he recently composed the original theme and transition music for the new I LOVE LUCY LIVE! show which opened in Los Angeles, fall 2011 and is due to open at the Nederlander theatre in Chicago, Illinois September 2012.

Still, with all of these projects going – Peitor Angell managed to supply most of the music for films such as MAKING OF THE BOYS, WHEN OCEAN MEETS SKY as well as supplying many songs to films including, “HERE IN MY HEART”, featured in Fox/Searchlight’s, THE CLEARING starring Robert Redford and Helen Mirrem, his songs, “JERK & SHAKE” and “NON-STOP BOSSA NOVA” in director Randal Kleiser’s United Artists Release, IT’S MY PARTY and several themes for MISS U.S.A. and MISS UNIVERSE.

He has composed scores for a number of films from director Dan Ireland’s Columbia/Tri Star’s THE VELOCITY OF GARY (starring Salma Hayek, Vincent D’Onofrio & Thomas Jane) to most recently, ALL IN, the poker movie with MATT DAMON, KENNY ROGERS and JENNIFER TILLY.

These are just a few highlights of his work since the millennium.  Reaching back further there were his Chill Out CDs, his song “LET’S GO” recorded by NOCERA which went to #7 on the Billboard Chart, his work with THE IDOLLS, TIPPI BRITTON, CHANTE MOORE, RES, EDNA WRIGHT.  His countless scores for television shows as well as his own off Broadway 1920’s musical, RENDEZVOUS OF 1922.

Moving forward, Peitor enjoys working with wonderful singers, musicians and talented imaginative directors.  Figuring out the puzzle of what is the best thing to do for each unique project whether it is a song, a score for a film or theatrical production is a big part of the thrill of being a creative person.  With so many abilities and tools at his fingertips it is easy to see how all of this comes so easy to him.

Peitor is currently a resident of Los Angeles, California but you can find him often in England, France and Italy.
