CONTRIBUTION: Composer/Lyricist/Arranger/Producer

ARMED & EXTREMELY SOULFUL combines the Billboard Club Chart Dance Hits I wrote and produced for her from 2000 to 2003, 4 previously unreleased club dance tracks as well as the soulful ballads I wrote and produced for her around the same time.

Joining in with her on these recordings are THE SWEET INSPIRATIONS and HODGES, JAMES & SMITH on her top 10 Billboard Club Hit, "LOVE REVOLUTION" and the theme from Columbia Tri Star's, THE VELOCITY OF GARY, "I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU."

Though Club Dance music does not generally employ live musicians for the contemporary sound, I did bring in some outstanding musicians to contribute to the tracks on the ballads. "ALL I WANT" features John Yoakum on Tenor Sax, Kirk Smith on Bass, MB Gordy on Drums and on the backing vocals, Pat Hodges and Denita James (from Hodges, James & Smith) and Portia Griffin on the top from The Sweet Inspirations. "I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU" reunited HODGES, JAMES & SMITH for the first time in 20 years. The track features Mark Hollingsworth on Tenor Sax, Jim Lum on guitars, Cliff Hugo on Bass, Luis Conte on Percussion and 20 string players contracted by Peggy Baldwin.

I co wrote five of the songs on ARMED & EXTREMELY SOULFUL with MARION RAMSEY best known for her performance in the POLICE ACADEMY movies. Our first collaboration produced 2 songs, "I DON'T WANT TO LET YOU GO" and the Billboard top 20 Club Chart Hit, "YOU MAKE ME FEEL G-O-O-D."

I recorded these both with Pat on a Sunday afternoon/evening in September of 1998 with the wonderful recording engineer, Brian Springer.

We followed these up with "SAVING MY LOVE" which we recorded in 1999. The remainder of the songs Marion and I collaborated on recorded by Pat Hodges were, "I'M A STAR" and "I WON'T GIVE UP", both recorded in 2003 featuring Denita James and Marion Ramsey on the backing vocals with Pat.

When I wrote the music and lyrics for the top 10 Billboard Club Chart Hit "LOVE REVOLUTION" I had the idea to bring in the SWEET INSPIRATIONS for the backing vocals. I had met them the year before when we were all singing in the choir for a Barbra Streisand Fund Raiser for Al Gore at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The song for me had a strong foundation in late 60's early 70's soul – and I wanted a recognizable sound from that era to bring the record to its zenith.

Both "STRONGER" and "ALL I WANT" I wrote specifically to showcase the beautiful, poignant, tender and unwavering part of Pat's voice. "ALL I WANT" has the classic 70's soul ballad sound that inspired me during the early 70's. Early Marlena Shaw, Loleatta Holloway, Margie Joseph recordings to name a few.

After my 3rd Club hit single with Pat, ("SAVING MY LOVE") reached #3 on the Billboard Club Charts, Pat began turning her focus more to her stage work performing a one woman show and the Dance music scene was changing. Though we had planned to release several more club singles from the collection of songs that had been recorded, it was decided the time was not right.

Now, almost 10 years later the collection of songs I specifically crafted for the amazingly gifted Pat Hodges are available for your ears. They are a window to a very exciting period in time when people went out to clubs and record stores to listen to great music and meet other's who were enthusiastic about great songs and great artists.

During the making of this album, the director, Victor Mignatti began filming his documentary, THIS TIME which features my work with Pat Hodges and The Sweet Inspirations. Though filming was completed around 2005 or 2006, the film is now set for theatrical release August 2012. In this film you will see my recording with Pat on "ALL I WANT" and traveling to live performances with her as well as a mix session for "STRONGER."
